Lenten Reflection: Week three

Sr. Bargbara McMullen, Congregational Leader

In this week’s first reading Moses has an experience of God in a burning bush.  I doubt many of us have had that kind of experience, but all of us at one time or another have probably had similar signs of God trying to get our attention.  Sometimes we struggle to understand just what God is trying to say.  But the good thing is that God never gives up on us.

Lent is exactly the time when we can open our hearts, stretch out our hands, and be led to places we’d rather not go, yet places God intends for us.

Faith and trust in God are seldom easy to attain or foster.  Often we look for it in all the wrong places.  Maybe we seek recognition, try to impress people, or do something to gain rewards.  In the end, none of that matters.  Like the song by David Kaufman says: “You Cannot Go Below My Resting Arms.”

So take some time this week; Lent is half over, and sit in silence.  Seek to know where God is leading you, and then with faith and trust, put yourself there—and rest in God’s arms.
