Lenten Reflection: Week Two
Sr. Barbara McMullen
In this Sunday’s readings, it seems divine revelation is at the core. In the first reading God makes a covenant with Abraham. God tells Abraham: “I am the Lord.” God initiates this relationship with Abraham and does so with us as well. Are we ready to accept the favors God bestows on us, often in just simple, ordinary ways throughout our lifetime.
In the Gospel today, God identifies Jesus as “his chosen Son.” Jesus is transfigured before the disciples and they get a glimpse of his true identity. It must have been quite a wonderful experience for them. No wonder they wanted to stay and build tents. But Jesus also teaches them that suffering and death will be a part of this glory. The disciples, like us, need to understand that God is there with us in both the good and bad times of our lives. We just must open our eyes to see and trust that God’s love is always there.
