July 2025 Eco-Challenge - Laudato Si Commission

Reflection/Quotes

"Even now it is uneven in its impact: climate change happens everywhere, but the greatest pain is felt by those who have contributed the least to it. The huge and increasing numbers (of people) displaced by climate crises are fast becoming a great emergency." ~ Pope Francis

"Climate migration is human migration. At the end of the day, we're talking about families who need to feed their children." ~ Lauren Markham

"Climate change is driving current and future waves of migration from Latin America as drought, hurricanes, pollution, and other environmental crises make agriculture unpredictable and land uninhabitable, undermining the lives and dignity of many, especially small farmers and farmworkers." ~ Georgetown University's Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life

Eco-Challenge

During each day of June, take a moment to remember and pray for the 120 million people that the UN Refugee Agency reports are in the world today.

Facts/Education

There has been a tragic rise in the number of migrants seeking to flee from the growing poverty caused by environmental degradation. They are not recognized by international conventions as refugees; they bear the loss of the lives they have left behind, without enjoying any legal protection whatsoever. Sadly, there is widespread indifference to such suffering, which is even now taking place throughout our world. Our lack of response to these tragedies involving our brothers and sisters points to the loss of that sense of responsibility for our fellow men and women upon which all civil society is founded. ~ Laudato Si paragraph 25
